For the love of lights!

This is an example of an exhibition space. I love lights and I especially love what Suntec Sinagapore did. They created a new kind of space for events and exhibitions has become a reality after modernization plans were changed back and forth. The new space takes the concept of customisable exhibition spaces to the next level.

Kinect Dancing

This is an example of a CAMERA+KINECT performance.  The dancers us a Kinect to track their movement to display on the screen. This is a creative way to use other technology for something new.

New age swings

Wow I wish I had this when I was younger.....Its a swing set that has a waterfall but when you swing through you don't get wet. It was created by GeoBeats and it falls under the architecture art, but its also functional!

Tipper !!!!

Tipper is a DJ and some may think he is weird but I love him. It sometimes even hard to dance because all you can do is stare at the visuals. He works with a guy that goes by Andriod Jones who creates the visuals. And the collaboration of the art and technology world is so cool.

Tupac Is Alive!!!

At the 2012 Coachella  they did a 3D hologram performance of Tupac. Snoop Dogg (the real people) came out and preferred with the Hologram. If I was there I would of been freaking out. This is such a unique idea and it must of meant a lot for Snoop. This would fall under the virtual performance category.

All Hail the Bass God

Bassnectar is my favorite performer of all time. He make electronic heavy bass/dubstep music. The best thing about his shows is  that he care just as much about the visuals as he does the music. The visuals always go along with the song. It is a magical experience. Everything he does uses technology.

So cool!

This is a live performance by the band Gorillaz and it is under the Virtual category. Damn I wish I could of seen this live. By using virtual people is unique but then also making it a remix and bringing out real people to feature on the song is a good blend of technology and the real world.

Projections on ice!

This is a great way to get people to not get up from their seats at a hockey game. The projection is a good use of space. It seems like the possibility are endless when it comes to projections. The Tampa Bay Lightning should do this!!

Trippy

Sydney morphed into a psychedelic wonderland using projected lights. I would have love to seen this in person. The scale of the building is what makes the projection so cool. Also the movement of the images reflects the movement of the water.

The future is now

Projection stuff has always caught my attention. Theres this company called DrawLight that is  speicalizes in  immersive installation where projections interact with chosen geometries on which they are projected. The core of Immersive Media. The also do holograms  They can work with any type of object to project on. I WANT THIS!

Feminism for the win. Feminism means equality for all. So for these women to fight for equality in the art world. They talk about its a history of men power dominating the art world. The women have been doing this for 30 years. They became guerrilla because they wanted to be anynomusly but still be photographed and be noticed. The women want to make a statement. They believe art should be about the culture not money. Not about excluding women. GO GIRLS KEEP FIGHTING!

Thats hot

OMGGG I LOVE THIS. What a great idea. Banksy got a copy of Paris Hilton's album and made a political statement piece about the wealthy with her album cover. Then he put them back in stores!!!! AWESOME BRILLIANT.  There were 500 copies in 42 stores...I wish I had done it. I like how you see the whole process and the song in the background is entertaining. Its probably better then the songs on the CD. I wonder if he listened to it.

Exit through the gift shop

The infamous, shadowy British graffiti street artist Banksy has literally left his mark on cities throughout the world. He comes in contact with Thierry Guetta, a Los Angeles-based Frenchman who videotapes various underground art escapades, and later is transformed into an art phenomenon dubbed "Mr. Brainwash." Rhys Ifans narrates an overlapping documentary where the line between what is real and what might be fake blurs, as modern art and celebrity are put under the microscope. It is interesting how they never show Banksy's Identity, but still feature him.

pOp ArT

Pop Art appreciates popular culture, or what we also call “material culture.” It does not critique the consequences of materialism and consumerism; it simply recognizes its pervasive presence as a natural fact. Pop Art was the new attract art. Rebelling against the esoteric vocabulary of abstract art, they wanted to express their optimism after so much hardship and privation in a youthful visual language.

Abstract Art

Abstract Art is my favorite kind of art because it is wild and totally up to interpretation. Each person who looks at it might think something different of it. I like how this video addressed it and talked more deeply about the history of it.

Artsy

Fine art can be boring. I took a class last semester called Form and Idea and it was painful. But I did learn some things. This video is a fun take on teaching old art. By putting the random things in like the shark makes you pay attention more. Also I will be more likely to remember it now. I wish we watched this in my other class.

Wait what sheep?

Hahahaahah I do not know what I just watched....these men were herding sheep to move around and create patterns. Then they put lights on them!!!!!! Strange idea but it was well executed.

SIMS RULE

I think I have every SIM game, however they all are for PCs and now I have a Mac so I can't play them. But now that I know there is a website called SimCity and its the same thing but online and you can play with other people. This is also the most expansive city management game yet where you can control a region that delivers true multi-city scale and play a single city or up to 16 cities at once each with different specializations. It is so much fun to create your own virtual world and people. Lets just say I just signed up for the website :) BRB PLAYING FOREVER!!!

Apple had been trying to be the top dog from the beginning.

I am an advertising major and in all my classes we always talk about the Apple commercial that was released in 1984. The commercial aired nationally only once, but its creativity and impact on the product prompted Advertising Age to select it as the "Commercial of the Decade." The ad is daunting and makes you want to break away from the norm (PCs) and get the new mac. It is unlike any other commercial, which may be why its so memorable. Even though it only aired once the Nielsen ratings estimated that the ad reached 46.4 percent of American households, although how many people actually saw it is left to speculation. And still people are talking about it.

Performance Art Video

I have always loved dancing and a couple years ago I came across a different kind of dance that involved a hula hoop. I saw people who had just normal ones, LED ones, and fire ones. It all looked really fun. I don't get to do the fire a lot, but the LED is my favorite. In my video is a collage of all types. Some of my friends star in it who also like to do it too. The song is called HMU by a electronic DJ named Space Jesus (he is a friend from home)

Enjoy!

Grid project

For my grid project I decided to make an under water scene. It is an octopus surrounded by fish. I have been using octopuses in my other projects so I thought it would fit well. I used sweetish fish for the fish and I used peach rings to make the octopus.

LOL

The title of the link was "Ballet Dancers in Random Situations" I did not know exactly what I was going to get when I clicked on it, but it is artsy and funny. The first one I saw was beautiful!
The next one I saw was funny and kinda creepy.

Overall they are very unique the group of photos is called Dancers Among Us” started to go viral. The gallery includes 84 images of ballet dancers, credited to Jordan Matter

How Disney Cartoons are made

I grew up watching Disney movies. When I was little I never thought too much about how they were made. Cartoons seem simple because you don't have to film anyone, but you have to draw out each frame. I learned how hard this is to make when I made my flip book. It takes a long time. After watching this short little video on how it is made I have a better appreciation for animation.

Flipbook!

Wow this was harder then I thought...... it didn't turn out how I expected, but it still conveys the message I wanted. What is shown is an octopus moving around. It gets really close up and then zooms out. I choose to do an octopus because that is what I made my 3D print of. My 3D print is better, but that is because I am better at making things on the computer then drawing.

NASA

In class we got to video chat with someone from NASA. He discus the projects he was working on. I think that virtual reality is cool and it is interesting that he is trying to make it possible to control things in the virtual world and then things happen in the real world. Also by using a common technology like the knect and making it more advanced was cool. I actually just watched the movie Martin, and the whole time I kept thinking about the talk we had with him about NASA. Overall it was one of my favorite class periods.

3D Printing

We had to make a 3D print design that was a weapon and a toy at the same time. I decided to make an evil villain character. He is an octopus wearing a top hat. His tentacles are deadly. He is also a leader to an under water gang.

The process to making it wasn't too hard. I had taken an animation class before and the software was similar. I am excited how it turned out, but I wish it was bigger.

Stencil Dog

I decided to make a stencil of my Beagle dog's face. The assignment was to create a propaganda piece, so I decided to have her thinking about pizza. That way when other people see it they will want pizza too.

West Side Story

When I was younger my family and I visited New York. We went to broadway and saw West Side Story, which is about  a modern day Romeo and Juliet that are involved in New York street gangs.  To this day it is still one of my favorite plays. I especially like how it took and old story and made it modern. The show also has a bunch of amazing songs.

ART IN THE NEWS!

“Smiling student uses 3D printer to make plastic braces on the cheap”

New Jersey Institute of Technology design student Amos Dudley has taken orthodontics into his own hands. These days it is very expensive to straighten out your teeth. This student took the idea of Invisalign, which retails up to $5,000. He decided to make his own because college students don’t necessarily have that kind of money lying around. Even if they had braces when they were younger their teeth could have moved.   Dudley decided to make his own set of DIY plastic aligners.  This first step was to create an alginate mold of his teeth, which he then filled with liquid Permastone. After tidying up imperfections in the casting with a razor blade, Dudley then used a NextEngine 3D laser scanner to create a digital model of his teeth. From here, he created animations where each of the crooked teeth traveled into their desired positions. He then produced models for each of the separate steps in his alignment, and then used a vacuum forming machine and dental plastic to create his pathway to the perfect smile. After using a Dremel and sanding drum to smooth out the edges of the aligners, Dudley put his DIY dental devices to work.

Dudley has now been wearing the aligners 24 hours a day for 16 weeks, only taking them out to eat. "They're much more comfortable than braces, and fit my teeth quite well," he writes on his blog. He says they also work well as whitening trays and prevent teeth grinding throughout the night. Judging by the before and after photos, the results are certainly impressive. I’m sure cosmetic orthodontics won’t be too happy about this.

Broadway!

Broadway is the central group of theaters presenting live drama in New York City. There are many different kinds and versions. One of my favorite musicals on broadway is Wicked. The story centers on Elphaba, the misunderstood, smart, and fiery girl of emerald-green skin who grows up to become the notorious Wicked Witch of the West and Galinda, the beautiful, blonde, popular girl who grows up to become Glinda the Good Witch of the South.
When I went to London with my family a few years ago we say Wicked! It was amazing and the music is so amazing! Here is one of my favorite songs from the musical, Defying Gravity.

Vaudeville, burlesque, cabaret....whats next!

Vaudeville is a type of entertainment popular chiefly in the US in the early 20th century, featuring a mixture of specialty acts such as burlesque comedy and song and dance. A modern day example from Sesame of this is of a modern day version of Vaudeville.

Burlesque is a variety show, typically including striptease. A modern day example from the modern day movie Moulin Rouge shows a modern day version of burlesque.

Cabaret is entertainment held in a nightclub or restaurant while the audience eats or drinks at tables. A modern day example from the modern day movie Anchorman shows a modern day version of cabaret.

The Sound of Music Game

The Sound of Music
An opera is a dramatic work in one or more acts, set to music for singers and instruments. Musicals are a type of opera. Richard Rodgers and Oscar Hammerstein made the Sound of Music in 1959. The story is set in Austria on the eve of the Anschluss in 1938, the musical tells the story of Maria, who takes a job as governess to a large family while she decides whether to become a nun. She falls in love with the children, and eventually their widowed father, Captain von Trapp. He is ordered to accept a commission in the German navy, but he opposes the Nazis. He and Maria decide on a plan to flee Austria with the children.
Since there are so many characters this musical is for peoples of all ages. Everyone can relate to one of the characters. Even though the characters are all different they all come together when necessary solve problems. It was also made after World War II was over, but it was about events that happened during the war so people could relate to what was happening.
Von Trapp’s are trapped!
While trying to flea Austria the Captain and Maria get kidnapped by the Nazis. It is up to the kids to save them. This is a board game that can have up to seven players. Each character has different characteristics that can benefit or drawback in the game. The characters will then go through different challenges like trivia memory test, and scavenger hunts. They will only have a certain amount of time to complete each task. When they complete the challenges they get clues to be closer to finding their father and Maria. If they get any thing wrong time will be deducted. Each player will have to complete each task if any of them get it wrong the whole group cannot advance.

Characters
Liesl von Trapp
The oldest child, blossoming into a young lady with an interest in boys. She has a maternal edge to her and cares very deeply for her younger siblings.

Friedrich von Trapp
Tough exterior, very much trying to be “the man” of the family.

Louisa von Trapp                                                                   Brigitta von Trapp
Rebellious attitude.                                                                  Smart, reads a lot.

Kurt von Trapp                                                                       Marta von Trapp
Gentle and mischievous.                                                          Very sweet and gentle.

Greti von Trapp                                                                    Captain von Trapp and Maria
Must have the cute factor.

Paper Planes

When doing some research for the best paper plane design I came across a website called "the art of manliness" I was a little insulted because I am just as capable to make a paper plane. So, I choose to do the most intense one on the website. It is called "the hammer" it wasn't too hard to make and it flew! But not very far. Still I think I masted the art of manliness.

A cappella

Who needs instruments when you have your voice and a computer? A cappella has always been something that has interested me. It is cool how you can make music without using any instruments and just your voice. It takes technology, however to combine all the individual sounds. When they are synced all together they create something totally different then if you listen to them on their own. The Coldplay a cappella cover was really good especially the way the footage was edited.

DiVa

I wasn't really a fan of this film. The subtitles and story line were hard to follow. There were a lot of unnecessary action scenes but the cinemetography was good. From what I did get from it was a boy took an illegal live recording of a famous american opera singer who has never been recorded before so thats why its a big deal that that tape isn't released to the public. However, the boy was not trying to sell it he wanted because he loved how she sounded. This relates to how music is transferred now. There are so many sites to download music without having to pay.

WERID

Madama Butterfly.........what did I just watch. I like stop motion movies but this is too strange for me. The story is based off an opera that follows a native islander woman known to as Madama Butterfly who falls in love with a sailor. The sailor doesn't stay for very long but Madama Butterfly waits for him to come back. Then she randomly gives birth to a fish that eventually turned into a baby girl. The sailor comes returns but only for the viewers to find out that he have another woman in his life. This made me feel really bad for her. Because she ends up leaving and destroys herself, but then turns into a butterfly.

Technology is taking over!

Seeing how far we've come with technology, it surprises me that more and more things are made. People are thinking of new and creative ways to do things. When you can build a machine that's capable of anything, you've only just scratched the surface of endless possibilities. However, with such advancement comes dangers. One day technology could turn on us. If things keep advancing technology may become too smart and become very unethical. But as of right now people are starting to think that technology has already taken over our lives in a negative way.

In addition, distinguishing between the philosophy of science and the philosophy of technology isn't an easy task either. A good way to distinguish between the two is to think, "science concerns itself with what is, whereas technology concerns itself with what is to be".

The Weird World of Wrestling

I have never been into any kind of wrestling. It is uncomfortable to watch and just seems like glorified beating each other up. After having read the piece on wrestling, I continue to stand behind my views. In the piece, the differences between wrestling and boxing are compared by their techniques and reactions from the crowd. Wrestling is done for the pure enjoyment, in todays sense is completely staged, and yet still the routine seems to be at random. In the piece it was stated that "America wrestling represents a sort of mythological fight between Good and Evil".  Wrestling is literally two people (or more) put inside of a ring to fight for the sole pleasure of onlookers.

Multimedia to Hypermedia

Something that I have noticed recently is how many different ways there to tell a story. When I watched the Die Antwoord music video I was very confused at first, but the I realized that she was trying to say how she went from starting with nothing to having it all. There are so many different types of entertainment. Long before music videos that could go viral on the internet, people had to go and see the performance live. They went to places like the Baroque Theatre and the Krumlov Baroque Theater. These types of places had great detail in the decoration it like the elaborate decoration in chapels.

What is art and technology about? Seems interesting.

First day of class was a success! I didn't really know what this class was going to be like, but when Professor starting talking about 3D printing my ears perked up. I am excited to see what we learn and work on this semester. Also the final performance piece also sounds like a lot of fun. I think I have already got an idea of what I want to do.

As far as what art and technology means? I think it would be impossible to describe one without the other. When I first think of art the first thing that comes to mind is paintings and museums. But art could be anything. Art is generally part of the physical world and its creation involves interacting with or acting on that world. Technology on the other hand is any man made tool. First thing that I think of is a computer, but a pencil is technology as well! As technologies expand, the possibilities for art expand.
